MarginX in ChatGPT and Claude

You can connect an AI assistant to your MarginX account and ask about your restaurants in plain language: sales, prime cost, labour and schedules, stock and ordering, recipe costs, portion control and reservations. Answers come from the same records your managers see in MarginX.

Connect

  1. In ChatGPT, add the MarginX plugin. In an assistant that takes a server address instead, use https://mcp.marginx.ai/api/v2/mcp.
  2. Sign in with your MarginX login.
  3. Choose which locations and which kinds of data the assistant may read, then approve.

Who can connect

Your role needs the MCP permission. An administrator can grant it in Roles & Permissions. The assistant only ever sees the locations your role allows, and only the ones you choose when connecting.

What it does not do

The ChatGPT plugin reads. It does not see wages, pay rates or guests' contact details. Decisions that commit the business, such as approving timesheets, publishing a schedule, receiving stock, submitting a purchase order or paying an invoice, stay in the MarginX dashboard.

Disconnect

Remove MarginX in your assistant's settings. An assistant's access to MarginX lasts at most an hour at a time and must be renewed to continue; once you remove it, it stops renewing. To have us revoke a connection on our side, email info@marginx.ca.

If something is not right

  • Sign-in is refused: your role does not have the MCP permission yet. Ask your administrator.
  • A location is missing: it is not one your role covers, or you did not choose it when connecting. Disconnect and connect again to choose differently.
  • Numbers look empty or wrong: check the assistant is connected to https://mcp.marginx.ai/api/v2/mcp. Any other MarginX address is a test server with sample data.
